St. Odile of Alsace was born blind, and was rejected by her father. To save her life, St. Odile's mother sent her away to be raised in a convent. Upon Odile's baptism by Bishop Erhard of Trier (later St. Erhard), she was cured of blindess. Many miraculous cures and resurrections were attributed to St. Odile in legend, and a widespread cult grew among her contemporaries and beyond. St. Odile is the patroness of the blind and against diseases of the eyes and ears.
