MRMM 16

On the cross, Jesus made the utterance, "My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?" This is the first line of the 22nd Psalm, written sometime between the 9th and 5th centuries B.C. Within this Psalm, the speaker says, "They parted my garments amongst them; and upon my vesture they cast lots." This vesture, which was a robe over Jesus' garments, had no seams (woven of whole cloth), and rather than dividing the robe, they rolled dice for it. This robe became known as the Holy Robe. The original of this medal shows Holy Mary holding the Robe, with the three crucifixes of Golgotha shown behind. It is a very rare original, and a beautiful find to share with you in cast reproductions.
