The San Damiano crucifix is associated with St. Francis of Assisi. St. Francis prayed before a large crucifix of this type when He was told to rebuild the church of San Damiano. The San Damiano crucifix is in the style of the Eastern Church, where saints surround the figure of Jesus. On the reverse is a relief of the beautiful St. Francis prayer. This is a hefty piece, nicely sized for 7mm and 8mm rosaries, tenners and chaplets.
