A Scapular medal depicts the Sacred Heart of Jesus on one side, and Our Lady of Carmel on the reverse. Originally, the Scapular or brown Scapular was a gift from Holy Mary to the religious, always made of wool and draped across the shoulder (the scapular bone is the shoulder blade). The Scapular has been cast in metal since an edict from Pope St. Pius X in 1910 permitted it. This is a delightful, small medal, meant for attachment to a rosary or tenner.
