In 1830, the "Medal of the Immaculate Conception" was revealed to St. Catherine Laboure by the Blessed Mother. Those who carried the medal, or wore it around their neck and recited with firm belief the Immaculate Conception prayer inscribed on the front of the medal would receive graces and protection by Holy Mary. The prayer is simple: "O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee." So many graces and miracles were attributed to wearing this medal that it became known in France as the "Miraculous Medal." The medal reproduced here is accented with floral scrolls above and a lovely rose below. It's lovely for use as the end medal on tenners. It's slightly heavier than most medals of its size, so it would be best as an accent for larger bead rosaries. Or to wear as a pendant.
