The Saint Gertrude Chaplet
The Chaplet of St. Gertrude is prayed on the regular rosary for souls in Purgatory and for living sinners. Our Lord told St. Gertrude the Great that 1000 souls would be released from Purgatory each time this chaplet is said. This devotion is uplifting and beautifully rhythmic to recite.
On the crucifix:
Make the sign of the cross, then pray the Apostle's Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
On the first large bead above the crucifix, pray one Our Father.
On each of the next three beads, pray one Hail Mary.
On the chain segment which follows, pray one Glory Be.
On the large bead just below the center medal, pray one Our Father.
On each of the ten beads above the center medal (first decade), pray the Eternal Father:
Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home, and within my family. Amen.
On the chain segment which follows, pray:
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, open the hearts and minds of sinners to the truth and light of God, the Father.
Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for the conversion of sinners and the world.
+ one Glory Be.
Repeat this sequence (one Our Father + ten Eternal Fathers + 2 Hearts and the Glory Be) on the remaining 4 decades back to the center medal.
