Prasiolite, or green amethyst, is a pale sage green, translucent bead. While green amethyst does occur naturally, most of the beads on the market are amethyst heated to obtain a green color and clarity. While my supplier wasn't specific, I do feel that these are heated beads. Green amethyst is a quartz, so well-placed on the mohs hardness scale and great for prayer beads. The initials on the reverse of the medal are the Latin for the exorcism prayer: "May the Holy Cross be my light! May the dragon never be my guide! Begone Satan! Never tempt me with your vanities! What you offer me is evil. Drink the poison yourself." For an alternate St. Benedict prayer, please visit the library section: nine bead chaplets for your guide.
